Entry Description

STATEHOUSE —State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) was honored yesterday at the DeKalb County Courthouse. At a joint meeting between the DeKalb County Council and the DeKalb County Commissioner, Rep. Smaltz was presented with a resolution honoring him for his hard work, service and recent election into the Indiana General Assembly.

“The honor has always been mine to serve with such outstanding people in such a great community,” said Rep. Smaltz. “It is my opinion that because of the efforts of everyone involved that DeKalb County is the best run county in the state, and I am very proud of that.”

The resolution was presented to Rep. Smaltz for all the hard work he has done in his past seven years as president of the council. He was honored for his overall service to the DeKalb County Council, recent election into the Indiana General Assembly and being a third-generation county councilman.

Rep. Smaltz served on the DeKalb County Council for the last 10 years and became its president in 2005. Each month when the council meets, the commissioners, courthouse staff and citizens come together to recite the pledge of allegiance. Rep. Smaltz was invited to address the group and lead in the pledge yesterday.

“I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who is a part of the DeKalb County Council and all of the citizens of DeKalb County for electing me to serve on their behalf,” said Rep. Smaltz. “I am so grateful for the relationships I built during my time on the council as I learned many valuable lessons in leadership, management and life. I will apply these lessons learned to my duties and responsibilities as your state representative in Indianapolis. I truly feel privileged and honored to continue to represent you in this new role.”
