Entry Description Open House on the Lusher Street Ground Water Contamination Site
Elkhart, Indiana
Tuesday, Oct. 16
Two Sessions: 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.
Location: Calvary United Methodist Church, 222 W. Indiana
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency representatives will be available to talk one-on-one about the cleanup work at the Lusher Street site. EPA is studying the nature and extent of contamination at the site and has collected ground water samples from residential wells and monitoring wells, soil samples from various locations in the area and indoor air vapor samples from neighborhood homes.
Site boundaries are the St. Joseph River to the north, State Road 19 (Nappanee Street) to the west, Hively Avenue to the south and Oakland Avenue to the east. At the open house, EPA staff will share information and answer questions. Posters will be set up to give you a better idea of the site, sampling results, where testing has taken place and the next steps.
For more information or if you need special accommodations, contact Patricia Krause, EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, at 312-886-9506 or 800-621-8431, Ext. 69506, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., weekdays, or via e-mail at krause.patricia@epa.gov.
