Entry Description
Lafayette-At approximately 2:07 p.m. today, Indiana State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on I-65 north bound near the 176 mile marker in Tippecanoe County.
Preliminary investigation by Probationary Trooper Weslee Ennis has revealed that a purple 2000 Chevrolet Malibu Driven by Tracy M. West, 37 years old from Hammond, IN was north bound when the left rear tire blew. The Malibu went into the left barrier wall of the interstate and then proceeded across both lanes while spinning 180 degrees before slamming into the right barrier wall where the vehicle came to rest. West was complaining of chest pains and was transported to St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette with non-life threatening injuries.
The front seat passenger was transported to St. Elizabeth East Hospital complaining of non-life threatening injuries. “Both were wearing seatbelts which probably helped in reducing their injuries,” Trooper Ennis explained. “Without the seatbelt, they could have been tossed around inside the car and possibly ejected.”
No citations were issued. Assisting at the scene were Troopers Mike Krueger and Nelson Davis, West Lafayette and Lafayette Fire and EMS. |
