Entry Description Jennings County: This afternoon a two vehicle crash resulted in serious injuries to one of the drivers. According to Trooper Matt Holley, shortly after 3:00 p.m. a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 30 year old Matthew D. Jayne of North Vernon was northbound on S.R. 7 in North Vernon. A 1990 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by 57-year-old Chris A. Callahan of North Vernon was also northbound behind the Chevrolet pickup. Just north of the S.R. 7 and S.R. 3 split, the Ranger attempted to pass the Chevrolet on the shoulder and ran out of roadway. The two vehicles made contact and the Ranger began to skid sideways, struck the embankment, and then came to rest on its top in the southbound lane of S.R. 7. Callahan had to be extricated from her vehicle by North Vernon Fire Department and was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville with serious injuries. A passenger in the Ranger, 16-year-old Donovan Booker of North Vernon suffered only minor abrasions. Jayne was uninjured. The crash remains under investigation. Tpr. Holley was assisted by North Vernon Police Department and North Vernon Fire Department. |
