Traffic Shift on US 40 West
As Project Changes Phases
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to shift traffic on High School Road and US 40/West Washington Street west of I-465 on Monday, September 17.
Walsh Construction, the state’s contractor, will shift eastbound traffic on US 40 to share new pavement on the north side of the roadway with westbound traffic between I-465 and Glen Arm Road. Walsh will begin replacing pavement in the eastbound lanes on the south side of the highway. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in both directions.
Walsh will also shift traffic on High School Road to the east side of the roadway north and south of the intersection. Both directions of High School Road approaching US 40 will have one lane for through traffic and right turns and a designated left turn lane.
Alternating lane restrictions in the area should be expected between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. as crews modify pavement markings to accommodate the traffic shift.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year. When finished, US 40 will have six eastbound lanes and five westbound lanes at High School Road. Eastbound US 40 will have one left turn lane to northbound High School Road, one right turn lane to southbound High School Road, two lanes for through traffic, and two additional lanes for merging onto northbound and southbound I-465. Westbound US 40 will have three through lanes beginning at the I-465 interchange and two dedicated turn lanes onto High School Road. The I-465 exit ramps and High School Road will also have increased capacity for turning onto US 40. |
