Entry Description The departments of transportation for Michigan (MDOT), Illinois (IDOT) and Indiana (INDOT) in conjuction with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will hold a public scoping meeting to discuss an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Chicago-Detroit/Pontiac Passenger Rail Corridor Program on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (local time) in Michigan City at City Hall, 100 East Michigan Blvd. The format of the meeting will be an informal open house where the public can talk with project officials, ask questions and view project displays. A formal presentation will be given at 4:30 p.m and repeated at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting will be to (1) Introduce the public to the study that will evaluate passenger rail improvements along the corridor, (2) Discuss the purpose and need for improvements, (3) Present a range of possible route alternatives and (4) Identify potential issues that should be considered in the EIS.
Additional public scoping meetings will be held in Illinois and Michigan. The Illinois public scoping meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chicago Union Station in the Union Gallery Room (off the Great Hall), 500 West Jackson Blvd., in Chicago. The Michigan public scoping meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 5801 Southfield Expressway in Dearborn, Michigan and on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Radisson Plaze Hotel, 100 West Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
