The Putnamville District of the Indiana State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Vigo County during the late evening hours of Thursday, August 23. The checkpoint is in conjunction with the Operation Pull Over “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic safety campaign which runs from August 17th through September 3, 2012.

Drivers who encounter a checkpoint will be required to produce a valid driver’s license and registration.  Motorists that are not impaired can expect only short delays of 2-3 minutes while passing through the checkpoint. 

Motorists are strongly encouraged to adhere to two basic principles when consuming alcohol: Do not drink and drive and always use a designated driver. Following these basic principles could save your life or the life of someone else.

If you encounter a suspected impaired driver, dial 911 and be prepared to give a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.

The Putnamville District is committed to traffic safety and will continue to conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the year to apprehend impaired drivers and deter others from drinking and driving.
