Entry Description
Vanderburgh County – Tuesday morning, August 14, several troopers were patrolling a high crash area on S.R. 62 between Rosenberger and the Posey County line. At approximately 9:55 a.m., Trooper Compton spotted a yellow Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound west of McDowell Road. Trooper Compton activated his radar unit and clocked the vehicle at 119 in a 55 mph. The driver of the Challenger continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and passed numerous vehicles. As Trooper Compton approached McDowell Road he lost sight of the vehicle. Several minutes later, Master Trooper Bob Helfrich spotted the Dodge Challenger as it turned back onto S.R. 62 from McDowell Road. Trooper Helfrich stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Joshua Smith, 24, of Omaha, IL.
