Entry Description
Fair Oaks, Jasper County- Indiana State Police Trooper Dennis Simcoe responded to a single vehicle crash on I-65 that sent the driver to the hospital by STAT Life helicopter.
Preliminary investigation revealed that, at approximately 6:05 pm, north bound at the 223 mile marker (three miles north of the Fair Oaks exit) Mylan D. Jefferson, 31 from Indianapolis, Indiana, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was in the left lane on the south bound lanes of Interstate 65. According to witnesses, the Chevrolet started to veer and went off the roadway through the grassy median, where the vehicle flipped over several times before landing up right in the right lane on the north bound side of the interstate.
The STAT Life air ambulance landed on the interstate then flown the driver (Jefferson) to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois with life threatening injuries (family has been notified). There were three passengers that were transported to Jasper County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

*Courtney Anderson, 21of East Chicago, Indiana. Front seat passenger. Taken to Jasper County
Hospital in Jasper with non-life threatening injuries. Abrasions, seat belt was in use.
*Kaylen Walden, 17 of East Chicago, Indiana. Back seat on driver side. Taken to Jasper County
Hospital in Jasper with non-life threatening injuries. Abrasions, seat belt was in use (Family notified)
*Kimani Harden, 19 of East Chicago, Indiana. Back seat on passenger side. Taken to Jasper County
Hospital in Jasper with non-life threatening injuries. EJECTED, no seat belt in use. Abrasions to
head and body. (Family notified)
North bound left lane was closed an hour and half for removal of vehicle, clean up and helicopter landing.
Agencies assisting: Jasper County Sheriff, STAT Life Air Ambulance, and Village Motors Wrecker.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. |
