Lake Station, Lake County-Yesterday evening, July 22nd, at approximately 8:27 pm, Indiana State Police Trooper Jacob Raupp responded to a single vehicle crash on I-80 west bound where the driver was arrested on multiple violations.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Daniel G. Keen, 39 of Hobart, was west on I-80 at the 12.9 mile marker (this is east of Central Avenue), driving a red 1993 Geo tracker, when he stated he was forced off the road by a semi.  His Geo went off the road to the north, down into a water filled ditch where it got stuck.  Keen was able to get himself out of the car and climb up and out of the ditch.

When asked where he was coming from Keen stated he was coming from home.  When asked where he was going he stated, "I’m going home.”

Keen tested positive for narcotics.  He was charged with Driving While Suspended Prior, Operating While Intoxicated, and Possession of a Scheduled II Narcotic. (Additional charges may be pending)

Keen was not injured and was incarcerated at the Lake County Jail.

The Indiana State Police remain committed to reducing crashes and patrolling in high crash areas.  Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.
