[INDOT] Public Hearing regarding a proposed added auxiliary lanes project in North Vernon, Jennings County

Entry Description
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Jennings County High School Auditorium, 800 West Walnut Street in North Vernon.  The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current design plans for the proposed State Road 3 (SR 3) added auxiliary lane project from approximately just north of Smith Street to just north of Chestnut Street located in North Vernon, Jennings County.  The total project length is approximately 0.8 mile.

The proposed project includes the addition of an auxiliary two way left turn lane with a proposed roadway width varying from 35ft to 38ft wide which will include two through lanes, 12ft wide and the two way left turn lane width varying 11ft to 14ft throughout the project limits.  Curbs and gutters will be installed along the roadway to address stormwater runoff.  The existing sidewalk north of Jefferson Street will remain in place.  South of Jefferson Street, the exisiting sidewalk will be replaced and new sidewalk will be placed behind the curb where sidewalks do not exist.  Construction of the project will require approximately 0.7 acre of new permanent right-of-way with no displacement of residents or businesses involved.

The environmental document and preliminary design plans will be available for public review at the INDOT Seymour District Office, 185 Agrico Lane in Seymour (877) 305-7611 and the Jennings County Public Library, 2375 North SR 3 in North Vernon (812) 346-2091 beginning on 7/25/12.  In addition, these materials will be available on-line via the Office of Public Involvement page at http://www.in.gov/indot/2366.htm.
