[ISP] Motorcycle Crash in Monroe County Claims Life of Springville Man

Entry Description

Bloomington - On today’s date at 9:30 a.m., a 2010 Mazda four door passenger car driven by Sandra Lee Sawyer-Hughey, 54 of Washington, IN., was travelling southbound on State Road 45 just east of Darrell Drive, approximately 7 miles west of Bloomington. For unknown reasons, her vehicle drove left of center, striking a northbound 1997 Honda Motorcycle head-on. The motorcycle was driven by Mark Conley, 56 of Springville, IN.

Conley was declared dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office due to the injuries he received from the crash.

Sawyer-Hughey was transported to IU Health Hospital in Bloomington for her complaint of chest pains. The crash investigation is ongoing. State Road 45 was closed for almost 2½ hours while troopers investigated the crash scene.

Conley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Conley’s next of kin have been notified.

All subjects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
