Entry Description
Knox County – Last night, June 2, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Senior Trooper Bill Gadberry was patrolling northbound on Niblack Road near Vincennes when he observed a Chevrolet Camaro speeding southbound. Gadberry clocked the vehicle by radar at 48 mph in 30 mph zone. As Gadberry was slowing down and preparing to turn around he observed a Dodge Dakota top the hill southbound at a high rate of speed. Trooper Gadberry activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop both vehicles, but both drivers accelerated and continued southbound on Niblack Road. Within seconds, the driver of the Dodge Dakota lost control, left the roadway on the west side and came to a final rest in a field. The driver of the Camaro continued southbound on Niblack. When Trooper Gadberry stopped he observed the driver of the Dodge Dakota run into a nearby wooded area. Other officers soon arrived, set up a perimeter and started searching for the driver. Within minutes, Trooper Doug Francis stopped the Chevrolet Camaro on South 6th Street Road and arrested a 16-year-old male driver from Vincennes. Further investigation revealed the driver of the pickup truck was also a 16-year-old male from Vincennes. Troopers later found that 16-year-old hiding out in a friend’s basement in Vincennes. Troopers also determined the driver of the Camaro had stolen the Dodge Dakota earlier in the evening from the parking lot at Bunker Hill Auto in Vincennes. The other 16-year-old later took possession of the truck. Both juveniles were arrested and later released to their parents.
