Entry Description
Knox County – Tuesday afternoon, May 29, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Trooper Doug Francis was patrolling U.S. 50 east of U.S. 41 when he observed the driver of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding. Francis clocked the vehicle by radar at 73 mph. The driver of the Jeep accelerated and refused to stop. The vehicle continued westbound on U.S. 50 and then south on U.S. 41. Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies deployed stop sticks on U.S. 41 at Hart Street, but the vehicle exited onto westbound Hart street into Vincennes. Troopers terminated the pursuit due to heavy traffic conditions on Hart Street.
Troopers continued their investigation and later identified the driver of the vehicle as Gregory Klein, 42, of Vincennes. Troopers later located the Jeep Grand Cherokee parked at his residence located at 1710 North 14 ½ Street in Vincennes. Officers attempted to get Klein to exit his residence, but he refused. At approximately 8:00 p.m. a search warrant was executed and officers from the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Section and Knox County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team gained entry through the front door and eventually found him hiding in the attic. Klein was arrested without further incident and take to the Knox County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
