[ISP] Two Routine Traffic Stops Reveal Criminal Activity
Start Date: 5/11/2012Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 5/11/2012End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

This morning just before 8:30 a.m. Trooper Chris Noone was patrolling on I-69 when he saw a north bound maroon Buick that was following too closely.  He stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by a female and male, around the 16 mile marker.

A license check of the driver, Estella M. Wills, age 23 of  Anderson, found that she was wanted on a warrant for Failure to Appear for Operating While Intoxicated out of Pendleton Town Court.

The passenger, Wayne A. Lovings Jr., age 34 of Indianapolis, also was wanted on a warrant for Failure to Appear for Operating While Intoxicated out of Pendleton Town Court.  The two were lodged in the Madison County Jail.

Shortly before 12 noon today Trooper Tyler Painter stopped a white Buick Regal on east bound I-70 at the 120 mile marker for 89 mph in the 70 mph zone. As Painter spoke to the driver, Yacob Chernet, age 24 of Indianapolis, he became suspicious.

Trooper Shane Stephens arrived at the scene, and a search of the vehicle found marijuana.  Chernet was lodged in the Henry County Jail for Possession of Marijuana under 30 grams, Class “A” Misdemeanor.

The Indiana State Police will continue to monitor the top causes for crashes around the state and concentrating enforcement efforts on these causes. These two traffic stops are examples of how routine traffic stops can lead to the discovery of criminal activity.
