Entry Description
INDOT to Set Bridge Beams
At Buck Creek on US 52
GREENFIELD, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will restrict traffic on US 52/Brookville Road in eastern Marion County to install new bridge beams over Buck Creek on Monday, May 14.
Rieth-Riley Construction, the state’s contractor, will close the westbound lane of US 52 at the Buck Creek Bridge just east of German Church Road. Semi trucks will deliver eight bridge beams to the work zone, and two cranes will lift the beams from the trucks onto the bridge pier supports.
Two-way traffic will be maintained by flaggers, and some short-term stoppages will be necessary throughout the day. The Restrictions are expected to begin at 9 a.m. and last until 4 p.m.
The project to widen and rehabilitate the US 52 bridge over Buck Creek is also lengthening both the eastbound left turn and westbound right turn lanes on US 52 to accommodate increased traffic volume turning onto German Church Road. The project is also increasing the area of the intersection to improve right turns.
A second traffic change this summer will shift traffic to the north half of the highway as the southern half is widened. All work affecting traffic is expected to be complete in November.
Drivers can learn the locations of work zones and highway restrictions before they depart by calling INDOT’s TrafficWise at 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) or view an online map at www.TrafficWise.IN.gov.
