Entry Description
Hammond, Lake County-Familiar story just different driver; early this afternoon, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Russell Hayes responded to a semi roll over that was caused by the driver going too fast for the ramp.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 12:25 pm, today, Oliver S. Jackson, 41 of South Bend was entering I-80 westbound from Indianapolis Boulevard northbound, driving a 2007 Freightliner semi with box trailer, when he stated a car attempted to go around him on the ramp, cutting him off, causing him to jerk his steering wheel and lose control. Further investigation revealed that Jackson was going too fast to negotiate the curve on the ramp which caused the Freightliner to roll onto its side and hit the concrete barrier wall; causing the top of the box trailer to rip open.
The Freightliner, owned by TransCorr LLC out of Indianapolis, was loaded with six rolls of paper. The load had been picked up at Cayuga, Indiana and was going to Illinois.
Jackson was cited for Speed Too Fast to Avoid Collision and Load Securement. He was not injured.
The ramp from northbound Indianapolis Blvd to I-80 westbound is closed until later this evening for off loading of the paper and up-righting of the semi and trailer.
