Sullivan County-At 10:22 this morning, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a motorcycle crash on State Road 48 near Poplar Street in Shelburn. The motorcycle operator was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital for what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Honda motorcycle driven by Troy Kelley, age 22, of Shelburn, was traveling west on SR 48 approaching Poplar Street. A tractor-trailer combination was eastbound on SR 48 near Poplar Street and entered a curve in the roadway. As the two vehicles traveling in opposite directions met in the curve, the driver of the motorcycle (Kelley) possibly became startled and applied his brakes. During the braking process, the motorcycle began to slide, ultimately lying completely down and ejecting Kelley. There was no contact with the passing tractor-trailer.

Kelley was wearing a helmet and no citations were issued.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Polly Blackburn. Assisting were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, and the Shelburn Fire Department.
