STATEHOUSE—State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R- Kokomo) congratulates the Wildcat Creek Soccer Complex, which will receive funding for improvements. Kokomo city officials announced a new building that will include a concessions stand, restrooms and a storage area for maintenance equipment.

The Kokomo-Howard County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and will use the money to create the central building for the soccer park on Markland Avenue.

“Receiving this grant is a great opportunity for the community,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “Now our community will have another place to focus on teamwork, dedication and leadership.”

The CVB and the Kokomo Soccer Club will provide matching funds, and the City of Kokomo will be donating labor and materials against the grant. Additionally, the city’s street department will work to build a 200-space parking area north of the proposed building’s location.

“I look forward to seeing the new soccer facilities once they are complete,” Rep. Karickhoff said. “Working together to improve our communities is a goal worth striving for.”

Construction is expected to begin in June 2012, and the facility is expected to be completed in time for the grand opening of the Wildcat Creek Soccer Complex in September.
