Indianapolis Traffic Restrictions Update

INDIANAPOLIS – Drivers can learn the locations of work zones and traffic restrictions by calling INDOT’s TrafficWise at 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) or online at  Work Zone Awareness Week is April 23-27, and INDOT reminds drivers to drive safely in these work zones and to follow the safety tips available at

I-69 Operation Indy Commute

  • I-69 northbound will be restricted to two lanes after the exit ramp to 116th Street and SR 37 (Exit 5) beginning Wednesday, May 2 to begin construction of the new SR 37 double-lane flyover ramp.

  • I-69 collector-distributor from 116th Street and to SR 37, as well as the 116th Street loop ramp and the SR 37 flyover, will have nighttime lane restrictions for pavement widening.  Restrictions will be Monday through Saturday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and are expected to continue through May.


US 31 at SR 38

  • SR 38 at US 31 will close on Tuesday, May 1 by 8 a.m. from Anthony Road to Dunbar Road.  Reconstruction of SR 38 is expected to be complete by September.

  • US 31 at SR 38 is reduced to one lane in each direction.  Southbound traffic is redirected to share the east side of the roadway with northbound traffic.  Northbound entrance and exit ramps are open.  Southbound entrance and exit ramps are closed.


US 31 at Keystone Parkway & 146th Street

  • US 31 southbound to Keystone Parkway southbound closed on April 9 for 90 days for reconstruction. 


  • US 31 southbound is redirected via median crossovers to share the east side of the roadway with northbound traffic between 151st Street and the Monon Trail, just south of Range Line Road and Clay Terrace Boulevard.  Two through lanes and turn lanes are maintained in each direction.  The existing southbound roadway is closed for reconstruction. 


  • 146th Street over US 31 between Greyhound Pass/Lowes Way and Clay Terrace Boulevard/Western Way has a left lane restriction in both directions for installation of median curb.




  • I-70 westbound will have a right lane restriction Friday, April 27 between Mt. Comfort Road (exit 96) and Post Road (Exit 91) beginning at 1 p.m.  The emergency repairs are expected to take about three hours.


  • I-70 in both directions from Post Road (Exit 91) to just east of Mt. Comfort Road (Exit 96) has shifting work zone traffic patterns with median crossovers.  Two lanes of traffic remain open in both directions. 


  • I-465 southbound at US 136 will have a double left lane restriction overnight Monday, April 30 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.


  • I-465 northbound at US 136 will have a double left lane restriction overnight Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.


  • Eastbound US 136 will be closed at the same time (overnight Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) as crews install beams on the I-465 overpass.  Eastbound US 136 traffic will be detoured south to 10th Street (Exit 14), where drivers can return north to US 136 and Crawfordsville Road (Exit 15).


  • US 40/Washington Street westbound has a median crossover to the south side of the roadway between I-465 and Glen Arms Road.  Two lanes of traffic are maintained in each direction as the north side of the road is reconstructed through May.
