Hammond, Lake County-Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Glen Fifield assigned to the High Performance Vehicles was east bound on I-80 when he witnessed a semi going too fast on the Calumet Avenue ramp lose control and roll-over onto its side blocking all but the left lane east bound.

At approximately 1:06 p.m., Trooper Fifield was in the left lane when he saw a 2005 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer, operating for KMS Trucking LLC out of Brownsville, Texas, coming down the south bound Calumet Avenue to I-80 east bound ramp.  The driver, Ramiro Rodriguez, 31 of Harlingen, Texas, took the ramp too fast to negotiate the curve, lost control and rolled his semi onto the driver side.  All lanes east bound were closed except the far left lane and inner shoulder.

The trailer was loaded with 42,000 pounds of steel springs.  No load was loss on the road.  Clean-up of the road was needed due to diesel and semi fluids.  The box trailer was pulled off toward the outer berm and off-loading of the springs onto another trailer will be necessary. 

Rodriguez was not injured.  He was cited for Speed Too Fast to Avoid Collision.
