Entry Description
‘High Risk’ Weather Designation Today for Southern Indiana Uncommon
Remain aware of changing weather conditions
Today’s severe weather warning for Southern Indiana is “high risk.” High winds, torrential rain and hail have already hit some areas in the state, and there are also threats of tornadoes through the afternoon and evening.
National Weather Service and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are asking Hoosiers to take this “high risk” warning very seriously. The designation is not used often, and means patterns are developing which could cause extreme weather.
“Do not take this designation lightly,” said Meteorologist-In-Charge Dan McCarthy, from the NWS Indianapolis office. “Storms can be unpredictable. A ‘high risk’ designation is unusual. Stay tuned to local media and stay near an all hazards radio.”
“All parts of Indiana should remain aware of changing weather conditions,” said Joe Wainscott, executive director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. “Be ready if you need to take action at home or at work. Assess your need to travel, and be aware of any issues that might occur as kids are coming home from school.”
