|
Entry Description Jennings County: Today the former fire chief of the Geneva Township Fire Department turned himself in to state police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to Detective Roger Drew, he began an investigation in early January after a complaint of theft was reported by the Ellis Gas and Oil Company in North Vernon suspecting one of its employees, 35 year old Shane T. Blackburn of Jennings County. As the investigation unfolded, it was also discovered Blackburn was allegedly stealing money from the Geneva Township Fire Department where he served as fire chief. According to Detective Drew, Blackburn allegedly stole an undisclosed amount money from Ellis Gas and Oil and the Geneva Township Fire Department over a period of time between June of 2011 and January 2012. Since the investigation began, Blackburn has stepped down from his position as fire chief and no longer serves in that capacity. Blackburn is now facing charges of Forgery (Class C Felony-two counts), Attempted Theft (Class D Felony), and Theft (Class D Felony-six counts). He surrendered himself to Trooper Ray Hunt at approximately 5:00 p.m. this afternoon at the Jennings County Jail where he is currently being held. Detective Drew was assisted in the investigation by Detective Jan Graves.
Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
