Entry Description
Indianapolis- Indiana State Police Vehicle Crimes Unit Detective Mitch Blocher completed a six month investigation of an individual that sold stolen property to a U.S. Army Major.
The investigation reveals that Travis L, Woodruff, 30, Indianapolis, IN, allegedly stole a 2003 Harley Davidson Electra Glide from Hendricks County in 2011. With stolen parts from other motorcycles, he switched the VIN plate and sold the bike to an unsuspecting Iraq War Veteran, stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. The army soldier bought the bike off the popular website Craig’s List.
Travis L. Woodruff was arrested at his residence on several active warrants for auto theft from Shelby, Hendricks, and Johnson counties. He was transported and incarcerated at the Marion County Jail. Bond will not be set.
Use caution as you make large purchases from internet sites, especially if items are undervalued. In this particular case, the original value of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle was listed as $23,000. The victim paid $8,500.00.
Detectives urge the public to be careful of those deals that seem “too good to be true” and do your own investigating. Check the vehicle history, or contact your local police agency and have them complete a VIN check to verify if the vehicle has been stolen.
If you have any tips on any vehicle theft information please call the Vehicle Crimes Unit Hotline (800) 288-6847.
