Vermillion County—A northern Illinois man was arrested and jailed this morning for alleged excessive speed, then stopped again nearly four hours later for another speeding violation.

During rainy conditions today at 10:10AM, Senior Trooper Ty Lightle clocked a gold 2004 Nissan Maxima on State Road 63 near County Road 300 South at 102 miles-per-hour in a 60mph zone. The driver was identified as Luis Jimenez, age 43, of Cicero, Illinois. Jimenez was taken into custody for Reckless Driving, Class B Misdemeanor, and transported to the Vermillion County for incarceration. Jimenez was later released after posting a $500 bond.  Jimenez and his female companion continued on to Terre Haute for personal business.

Nearly four hours later at 2:20PM, Senior Trooper Lightle again radar clocked a gold 2004 Nissan Maxima at 77mph in a 60mph zone northbound on SR 63 near CR 300 South in Vermillion County. The driver was again identified as Jimenez. He was issued a standard Indiana traffic citation for 77mph in a 60mph zone and released.

The Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office has a standard policy that requires drivers who exceed the posted speed limit by 30 miles-per-hour or more, be incarcerated for Reckless Driving and required to post bail. The Indiana State Police strongly discourages this kind of driving behavior and troopers are using every resource available to slow down motorists and save lives. Motorists are encouraged to do their part and drive with due regard for others and within the traffic laws of Indiana.
