[ISP] Sexual Predator Arrested

Jackson County: At approximately 11:50 a.m. this morning Trooper Randel Miller was patrolling I-65 when he stopped a 2006 Dodge Charger near the 51 mile marker southbound for a traffic violation.  During the course of the traffic stop Tpr.  Miller became concerned for his safety when the occupants of the vehicle continued to make suspicious movements.  When he searched the occupants he located a loaded 9 mm handgun on the passenger, 30 year old Donald R. Tyler of Newport, KY.  During the course of the traffic stop, Tyler gave Tpr. Miller false names until Tpr. Miller was able to locate Tyler’s ID card hidden in the vehicle.  Once Tyler had been positively identified Tpr. Miller determined he was wanted on a warrant in Kentucky for failing to register as a sex offender.  Tyler was subsequently placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant and Tpr. Miller also charged Tyler with Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Class B Felony) and two counts of False Informing (Class A Misdemeanor). Tyler was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jackson County Jail.  The female driver was not charged with any crime and released.  Tpr. Miller was assisted by Tpr. Jimmy Wells and Officer Adam Surface of the Seymour Police Department.

Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
