Entry Description
Grant County – This morning, at approximately 8:04 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash at 9281 South Wheeling Pike, which injured a Matthews, IN, woman.
A preliminary investigation by Trooper Lee Ross revealed that Allen Thieleke, 21, Swayzee, IN, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southbound near 9281 South Wheeling Pike. Thieleke was allegedly traveling too fast for the snow covered road conditions, lost control, causing the Silverado to slide across the centerline into the northbound lane. The pickup truck was struck in the passenger side by a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The Cobalt was driven by Ty Daily, 41, Matthews, IN.
Daily was transported by ambulance to Marion General Hospital with a complaint of back and neck pain. She was later transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN, for a spinal fusion. Thieleke was not injured.
Both drivers were wearing a seat belt, which Trooper Ross believes helped reduce the severity of Daily’s injuries and kept Thieleke from being injured.
Thieleke was issued a citation for speed too fast to avoid a collision.
Motorists are reminded to reduce the speed of their vehicles when roads are wet, ice, or snow covered. For current road conditions motorists should monitor their local media outlets or call the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Road Condition Hot Line at 1-800-261-ROAD (7623).
