Sellersburg, IN-This morning at approximately 8:19 AM, troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 65 north bound at the 10.9 mile marker. The preliminary investigation reveals a 2001 Freightliner semi-tractor and trailer loaded with scrap steel was parked on the right side of the interstate having mechanical problems. A gray, 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer was north bound at an unknown rate of speed and ran into the rear of the parked semi-tractor and trailer. When the Mitsubishi Lancer crashed into the rear of the semi tractor and trailer it then travelled across the roadway striking a gray 2002 Ford Taurus that was also North Bound.

The driver of the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer, Farah Muse Awad, 43, from Columbus, OH was not injured. The driver of the 2002 Ford Taurus, Lee E. Wilcher, 86, from Louisville, KY was also not injured.

The preliminary investigation also reveals the driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer was not wearing a seat belt. The driver’s of the Ford Taurus and semi-tractor and trailer were wearing seat belts.

The name of the deceased driver is not being released pending notification of the next of kin.
