Entry Description
Covington, Vermillion County-Just before 6:30 pm, this evening, Tuesday, January 10th, Indiana State Police Trooper Kyle Wentland responded to I-74 at the 5 mile marker (this is one mile east of the Covington exit) where a seventeen-year old Covington teen stepped in front of a semi.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Chevrolet was parked on County Road 1650 North, this runs parallel to I-74, when the driver jumped over the fence separating CR 1650 N from the interstate.
The seventeen-year old Covington teen then entered into the west bound lanes of I-74 traffic and was struck by an on-coming semi.
The teen was airlifted from the scene to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois with critical injuries.
Family has been notified.
