[INDOT] Public hearing regarding a proposed roadway rehabilitation project along SR 256 within the City of Austin in Scott County.

Entry Description
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at 6:00pm in the Austin Elementary School cafeteria, South Highway 31 in the City of Austin.  The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current design plans for the proposed roadway rehabilitation project along SR 256 from approximately 495ft east of US 31 to about 2,700ft east of US 31 within the City of Austin located in Scott County.  The total project length is approximately 0.5 mile.

The proposed project includes two 12ft wide travel lanes with combined concrete curb and gutter section, concrete sidewalk, intersection improvements, street approach and driveway reconstruction, enclosed storm sewers, culvert replacement, pavement resurfacing, curb ramps for handicap accessibility, pavement markings and signage modifications.  The project also proposes the replacement of the culvert over Austin Ditch.  Construction of the of the proejct will require approximately 2.7 acres of new permanent right-of-way.

Local access to all residences, schools and businesses along SR 256 will be maintained at all times during the construction phase using side streets, temporary entrances or other appropriate means.  SR 256 will be closed to through traffic during construction with the official detour over state-maintained routes using portions of US 31, SR 26 and SR 203.
