FSSA ANNOUNCES DISASTER RELIEF BENEFITS REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR SOUTHERN INDIANA COUNTIES

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has announced that Hoosier families impacted by severe storms and tornados on March 2, 2012, and who currently receive food stamp benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – SNAP) may request a replacement of benefits for food lost in this disaster. Only food stamp recipients residing in counties designated as disaster emergencies are eligible for replacement of benefits. Gov. Daniels declared the following as disaster emergency counties: Clark, Gibson, Harrison, Jefferson, Posey, Ripley, Scott, Shelby, Vanderburgh, Warrick and Washington.

To qualify for a replacement of benefits, you must report this loss by March 12 and sign an affidavit for replacement of the food stamp benefits. Division of Family Resources (DFR) staff may request proof of loss such as a statement from the utility company, insurance report or FEMA application. The local DFR office in your county of residence will be available to assist in the process of replacement of food stamp benefits. Here are the locations of DFR offices in the affected counties:

Additional assistance may be available once the state has completed its damage assessment and requested federal assistance.

If a Hoosier Works EBT card has been lost as a result of the March 2 tornados and storms, a replacement card can be requested. Contact Hoosier Works EBT Customer Service TOLL FREE: 877-768-5098.

Families who need assistance with their Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) benefits should contact: River Valley Resources TOLL FREE: 866-652-7027, or the Bureau of Child Care TOLL FREE: 877-511-1144 (press 3 when prompted).

FSSA’s Mental Health Crisis Counseling Line is available TOLL FREE: 866-679-4631. This crisis line provides mental health and recovery counseling for those impacted by the storms.
