[FSSA] Enhanced Benefits Eligibility Process to Launch in Marion County
Start Date: 2/14/2012
End Date: 2/14/2012
Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS (February 14 , 2012) -- Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced today the final expansion of its redesigned benefits eligibility system – commonly referred to as Hybrid. With implementation in Marion County, all 92 Indiana counties will be using the Hybrid system.

Beginning February 20, 2012, people seeking state public assistance in Marion County will use the enhanced system to apply for and maintain benefits including Medicaid, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP - formerly known as food stamps), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Hoosier Healthwise (HHW), and Indiana Manpower and Comprehensive Training (IMPACT).

"On January 20, FSSA received approval from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to expand the Hybrid system to Marion County," said Michael Gargano, FSSA secretary. "This completes a two year process of systematically extending Hybrid statewide. Close monitoring of results clearly shows accuracy and timeliness have substantially improved. These improvements have happened at a time when applications for benefits have dramatically increased. Hoosiers who are eligible for benefits are getting them much faster," added Gargano.

The Hybrid system employs greater flexibility and more accessibility to clients via in-office, telephone and Internet service options. Hybrid provides for more face-to-face contact between caseworkers and clients. "We adopted a team approach to case management to ensure clients always connect with staff who are familiar with their cases," explained Gargano. Clients may apply for benefits and report changes to their cases (such as a new phone number, address or job) in the following ways:

Visit a local Division of Family Resources (DFR) office: DFR offices are located in every Indiana county for those who prefer face-to-face support. Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (local time). DFR team members are available to take applications, discuss cases and scan required documents, no appointment is necessary.

Phone (Toll FREE) 1-800-403-0864: This statewide phone number will be available to Marion County residents beginning February 20, 2012. During regular office hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (local time), calls are routed to a team member who will assist callers to best meet their needs. Outside of office hours, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, clients are directed to an automated voice response system to check the status of benefits or to report changes to their case files.

Online at www.DFRbenefits.IN.gov: Online access will be available to residents of Marion County beginning February 20, 2012. Individuals may apply for and manage benefits via the Internet using an electronic signature.

Some DFR offices in Marion County have moved to better serve individuals who require public assistance. As of February 20, 2012, DFR’s Marion County office locations will be: 2620 Kessler Blvd. E. Dr., Suite 100 (North); 5610 Crawfordsville Rd., Suite 500 (West); 3266 N. Meridian St., Suite 400 (Central); 1213 N. Arlington Ave. (East); and 3906 Madison Ave. (South). The Central, West and North locations are new.
