Entry Description
CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded two Major Moves contracts to build new highway and bridges as part of the State Road 25 Hoosier Heartland Corridor project. Milestone Contractors of Lafayette was awarded the two contracts for a total of $40,973,490.
The work will include:
-
New lane construction from just east of the Tippecanoe/Carroll County line to the new interchange at U.S. 421/State Road 39 south of Delphi.
-
New lane construction from County Road 100W to County Road 500S between Rockfield and Clymers.
-
New bridge construction at County Road 500S.
-
New bridge construction at the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
-
New bridge construction at Bridge Creek.
-
Construction of the new interchange at U.S. 421/State Road 39.
The Hoosier Heartland project is divided into four segments between Lafayette and Logansport. Along the corridor, INDOT's team and design consultants are in varying stages of design and construction.
Ground was broken for the $450 million Major Moves project in October of 2008. Work was accelerated to be completed by the end of 2013. The new State Road 25 will be a 31-mile, four-lane, limited access divided highway. The Hoosier Heartland corridor will provide safer access from Lafayette to Fort Wayne, where it will link to the U.S. 24 segment known as the Fort-to-Port corridor.
More information about the Hoosier Heartland Corridor project, one of the largest in the Major Moves construction program, can be found on INDOT's website at http://www.in.gov/indot/div/projects/sr25study/.
Governor Mitch Daniels' Major Moves transportation plan capitalizes on Indiana's strategic location at the Crossroads of America by building a superior road infrastructure. The innovative plan creates jobs and will leave a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.
