Entry Description
CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded the Major Moves contract to build new highway and bridges as part of the State Road 25 Hoosier Heartland Corridor project. Crider and Crider, Inc. from Bloomington, IN, was the low bidder on the project at 15,980,158. The bid was $7,191,842 lower than the engineer's estimate for the project.
The Hoosier Heartland project is divided into four segments between Lafayette and Logansport. Along the corridor, INDOT's team and design consultants are in varying stages of design and construction. Construction for this contract, in the third phase of the project, will take place between County Road 400 West and County Road 100 West. Several other contracts for the project will be let later in 2011 and 2012.
Ground was broken for the $450 million Major Moves project in October of 2008. Work was accelerated to be completed by the end of 2013. The new State Road 25 will be a 31-mile, four-lane, limited access divided highway. The Hoosier Heartland corridor will provide safer access from Lafayette to Fort Wayne, where it will link to the U.S. 24 segment known as the Fort-to-Port corridor.
More information about the Hoosier Heartland Corridor project, one of the largest in the Major Moves construction program, can be found on INDOT's website at http://www.in.gov/indot/div/projects/sr25study/.
Governor Mitch Daniels' Major Moves transportation plan capitalizes on Indiana's strategic location at the Crossroads of America by building a superior road infrastructure. The innovative plan creates jobs and will leave a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.
