Federal Pre-Existing Insurance Plan
In a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Indiana opted to have the federal government operate its high risk insurance pool required in the Affordable Care Act, which was passed by congress on March 23, 2010.
Preliminary qualifications for Indiana residents to participate in this federal plan include the following:
- You must be a citizen or national of the United States or lawfully present in the United States.
- You must have been uninsured for at least the last six months. This includes High Risk Pool Coverage and insurance coverage that may only exclude coverage for a pre-existing medical condition.
- You must have had a problem getting insurance due to a pre-existing condition.
