Veterans' Home, Purdue Awarded Funding
(STATEHOUSE) State Senator Brandt Hershman (R-Wheatfield) announced today the State Budget Committee approved funding for two important Tippecanoe County projects. The committee okayed money for improvements to the Indiana Veterans' Home and an open area at Discovery Park at Purdue University .
It is good to see these projects finally approved, Hershman, who is a member of the influential Appropriations Committee, said. One will protect our Veterans' Home, the other will give students a place to enjoy the outdoors.
Senator Ron Alting (R-Lafayette), a member of the Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee also lobbied for these appropriations.
The State Budget Committee approved $220,000 to install sprinklers into every room at the Indiana Veterans' Home. The Federal Veteran's Administration requires all remodeled facilities to have sprinklers installed before re-occupancy. The Indiana Veterans' Home stood to lose funding for 42 beds if these safety fixtures weren't installed.
The committee also released $1,525,000 to develop a mall in Purdue's Discovery Park , just north of the Birck Nanotechnology Center . The mall will include landscaping, sidewalks, seating areas, lighting and a wide pathway for emergency vehicle access.
Hershman represents White and Carroll counties and portions of Jasper, Clinton , Tippecanoe , and Howard counties.
