Hershman Joins Prestigious Fellowship
(STATEHOUSE) - Senator Brandt Hershman (R-Wheatfield) was recently named one of 40 emerging state leaders nationwide representing all three branches of government chosen for this year's class of the Council of State Governments 2006 Henry Toll Fellow program.
The Toll Fellowship program was founded in 1986 to bring talented policymakers together to work on solving tomorrow's problems today. The program serves to equip these lawmakers with the skills and strategies to meet the challenges ahead.
"It's an honor to be included in such an exclusive group of leaders," Hershman said. "I hope to use this opportunity to build relationships with decision makers in other states and plan for Indiana 's future."
Elected to the Indiana Senate in 2000, Hershman is involved in several other groups involving lawmakers from across the country. He currently serves as Indiana 's State-Federal Coordinator for the National Conference of State Legislatures. He is also a member of the Midwestern Legislative Conference Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the American Legislative Exchange Council's Telecom Task Force, and the Council of State Governments' Agriculture Committee.
The Toll Fellowship Program is named in honor of Henry Wolcott Toll, founding father of The Council of State Governments and a Colorado state senator from 1922 to 1930. To improve state legislative conditions across the country, Toll founded the National Association of State Legislators in 1925. In
1933, the association adopted articles of organization, forming CSG. Toll directed CSG until 1936.
Hershman represents Senate District 7, which includes Carroll, Clinton, Howard, Jasper, Tippecanoe, and White Counties .
