(STATEHOUSE) State Senator Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) will address the fourth annual Helping Others Prosper Economically (H.O.P.E.) Summit Fri., Sept. 16 at Martin University .
The H.O.P.E. Team is a non-political, inter-denominational, multi-ethnic, non-profit information and service organization. The group's mission is to “constantly seek and improve the human condition of those in need through networking; further enhancing the efficacy of service providers in our community, delivering hope to those in need.”
“I am honored to participate in this year's summit,” Merritt said. “This is an important group in our community that provides assistance and guidance to those in need.”
The theme of this year's summit is “The Future of Our Children.” Some of the issues discussed will include health, education, welfare and the juvenile justice system.
Merritt will discuss the Safe Cradle Law with the group. This law allows parents of babies 45 days old or younger to anonymously leave the child with an emergency medical provider, and the child will be placed with a family ready for parenthood.
“I am always grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness of this law,” Merritt stated. “Safe cradle helps those who are not ready for parenthood, and protects the young child.”
