Gard, Wyss Support Governor's Energy Plan

(STATEHOUSE) — Senator Beverly Gard (R-Greenfield) and Senator Tom Wyss (R-Fort Wayne) today announced their support of Governor Mitch Daniels' strategic energy plan. The governor and Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman are unveiling the plan today in a series of news conferences across Indiana .

Gard, who chairs the Senate Energy and Environmental Affairs Committee, and Wyss, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security, Utilities and Public Policy Committee, said the Daniels Administration is preparing Indiana for the future.

“New clean coal technologies, biofuels and wind technology are Indiana 's resources that we can use to grow our economy and ensure energy availability for the next generation,” Gard said. “ Indiana is quickly becoming a national leader in alternative energy, and we must take advantage of our position. The time is now.”

The senators applauded Daniels and Skillman for their leadership in bringing new industry and cutting edge technology – thereby new jobs – to Hoosiers who have come to rely on a fading manufacturing-based economy.

Wyss said, “I commend the governor's team for being proactive rather than simply reactive. Indiana has been blessed with an ample coal supply that will enable us to depend upon homegrown energy instead of other states or nations. This will prove beneficial to both utility consumers as well as employers.”

Gard said, “The governor's Homegrown Energy plan not only utilizes Indiana 's existing resources, but also produces energy with environmentally friendly technology.”

Gard and Wyss said they are eager to work with the administration to enact progressive energy policies when the legislature convenes in 2007.
