Weatherwax Applauds Governor's Strategic Energy Plan
(STATEHOUSE) Senator Tom Weatherwax (R-Logansport) today applauded Governor Mitch Daniels' Strategic Energy Plan, “Hoosier Homegrown Energy.” The plan focuses on producing more of the energy the state needs through its own natural resources while encouraging conservation and energy efficiency.
“This is a great day for Indiana ,” said Weatherwax. “As past chair of the former Senate Energy and Economic Development Committee, I have been pushing for a statewide energy plan for years and made no progress during the past administrations. I commend the governor for making the commitment to meet Indiana 's energy needs through the use of our own natural resources.”
The plan commits Indiana to using new and emerging technologies to convert Indiana coal, corn, soy and other renewable sources to energy, reducing dependency upon imports. This could generate thousands of new high-paying jobs, economic and energy security, a stronger hand in attracting new employers to Indiana and a more stable and affordable energy supply for Hoosiers.
“I am committed to ensure this plan is a top priority in the Senate during the next legislative session,” said Weatherwax. “We have made great strides in the area of biofuels, but now we must expand into other fields of renewable energy.”
State Senator Tom Weatherwax represents District 18, which includes Cass, Fulton and Miami counties as well as parts of Pulaski, Kosciusko and Wabash counties.
