State Representative Jackie Walorski was first elected to office in 2004, vowing to continue to represent the community in the same fashion as former Representative Dick Mangus. In a short time, Rep. Walorski has become a leader in the caucus, being appointed as Assistant Floor Leader. She serves on the Family, Children, & Human Affairs and the Public Policy committees.
At the Statehouse, Rep. Walorski has promoted strong consumer protection initiatives, to require companies to report a breach of sensitive personal information that could result in identity theft.
As the former Vice-Chair of the Government & Regulatory Reform Committee, Rep. Walorski has also been an advocate for more efficient government, helping to craft an honestly balanced state budget in 2005 that included no tax increases. She also co-sponsored the Voter ID law, which requires everyone to show a picture ID before casting a vote to ensure integrity in our elections.
Rep. Walorski is founder of Impact International, a humanitarian organization. Impact is an international relief agency that has done extensive work in Eastern Europe. As part of her work, she lived in Romania for a few years.
Rep. Walorski, born and raised in St. Joseph County, represents the southern portion of St. Joseph County and some portions of Elkhart County. Jackie graduated from Riley High School in 1981 and she received her Bachelor of Arts from Taylor University in Communications and Public Administration in 1985. She is married to Dean Swihart, who teaches in Mishawaka.
