Entry Description DNR’s Division of Forestry has awarded $145,365 in federal funds to 11 cities, towns and non-profits in Indiana for urban forestry projects.
The projects include tree inventory and analysis for management planning, emergency response planning, and education and awareness campaigns. Urban forests enhance air and water quality, resulting in improved community health and safety.
Funds for tree inventory and analysis were awarded to: City of Indianapolis, $15,000; Tree Lafayette, City of Lafayette, $10,575; Anderson Tree Commission, $15,000; City of Attica, $10,890; and Town of Fishers, $15,000.
Funds for tree-planting projects that target environmental issues such as water quality, flooding, air quality and pollutants were awarded to: City of East Chicago, $15,000; City of Terre Haute, $15,000; Rensselaer Urban Forestry Council, $4,500; City of Franklin Parks and Recreation, $4,400.
Funds for statewide urban forestry awareness, education and outreach projects were awarded to the Indiana Urban Forest Council, $20,000; and Purdue University, $20,000.
Funding came through the DNR from the U.S. Forest Service’s Community and Urban Forestry (CUF) program.
